Ocean waters swirl with life, mystery, and danger, deeply connecting Native Peoples to water and its life-giving presence and promise. Here, the artist celebrates the dynamic interplay of waves and light, bounded at the edge by an ivory and earthen ring. The imagery is adapted from Island pictographs, traditional paintings, and basketry. The reverse side echoes ocean water and tidal patterns, laced with gold and blue hints against the swirl of sand. Wood artist Keoni Carlson carved this interpretation from his Colorado studio in 2018. The reverse is a stylized companion design echoing Island basketry images.
