By the 1500s, the Apache people populated the desert, mountains and plains of the American Southwest. From birth to death, rites of passage are celebrated. At birth, a child’s ears were pierced to enhance the ability to hear; at first steps, a Moccasin Ceremony gifted blessings that the child’s path would be strong and straight; at puberty for both boys and girls tests provided guidance for long life, health and courage. Here, the artist traces a young boy’s pathway to becoming a warrior… from the run up a mountain top, to a survival trek across the desert & tests of courage. Remembering the traditions and life customs grant honor, strength and wisdom.
