Some stories must never be forgotten, however painful, however joy-filled. The artist, here, presents artwork grounded in profound emotion gleaned from research and conversation. In, “Courage” the sculpture honors the legend of Apache Tears – where a small band of warriors were cornered in battle atop a steep cliff. Days later, with no water or food remaining, they jumped to their deaths rather than face the humility of capture. It is said that when found by wives and daughters, the women cried for seven days and nights, their tears turning to black stone droplets upon the dusty grave site.
